COMPOSITE BONDING

Composite bonding can transform your smile, using modern, minimally invasive techniques to improve any badly shaped, chipped or discoloured teeth.

Composite bonding can be directly applied, shaped and colour-matched to the edges or the whole surface of your teeth. This can all be done in one simple appointment, without the need to shave any of your teeth away.

What is the difference between veneers and composites?

Both dental veneers and composites can improve the appearance of your teeth. Composite bonding is normally used for minor cosmetic concerns including small chips, gaps, colour and contour. Applied to the edge of your teeth or the entire surface, they can be fitted by a dentist on the same day, with little or no tooth surface removed.

Dental veneers are made of a thin layer of ceramic material that will cover the entire surface of your teeth – made in a lab by a technician. This can improve not only the colour of your teeth, but also their size and alignment. Dental veneers will require a thin layer of enamel to be removed and they are a permanent choice.

Will I need to have my teeth whitened and straightened before composite bonding?

Patients may prefer to have a straightening and whitening treatment before introducing composites. Teeth straightening is recommended if there is overcrowding, using Invisalign invisible teeth straighteners. The composites can then be moulded and colour-matched to the new shape and shade of the teeth, resulting in a brighter, more uniform smile.

Does composite bonding hurt?

No, it should be a painless procedure involving no injections or drilling – just the skilled hands of your dentist. However we understand that some patients may feel nervous about having a dental procedure, especially if they have sensitive teeth. At CK Dental, we’ve created a calm, tranquil atmosphere and our experienced dentists are skilled at reassuring nervous patients. We can also help with options of sedation and general anaesthesia if needed.

How long will composites last?

Although they’re not as permanent as veneers, composites normally last up to 10 years – depending on your lifestyle habits and how well you look after them. The good news is that if they do get damaged or stained, they can be repaired easily. Regular dental hygiene visits should keep them looking fresh and will ensure that you maintain a healthy smile.
