DENTURES

Gaps in your smile can affect your confidence and even your health and you may wish to consider dentures as they provide a custom-made, cost-effective solution to missing teeth.

Missing teeth can affect your smile and change the shape of your face, while also causing problems with speech and what you’re able to eat. The longer you wait to replace a missing tooth, the more at risk you are of developing gum disease which can lead to even more serious health concerns.

At CK Dental in Bristol, we offer a range of solutions including dentures and it’s not just older patients that choose these bespoke, natural-looking replacements.

Dentures can either be fixed or removable and the materials used include flexi, chrome and acrylic. We offer the following options:

Partial dentures

Partial dentures are used to replace one or more teeth alongside your natural teeth. The replacements are designed to fill in any gaps as well as blend with your remaining teeth and are fixed to a metal framework. Partial dentures can be made from chrome as there is support from your existing teeth and chrome can be preferable to acrylic as it is more durable, as well as lighter and therefore less bulky.

Full dentures

Full or complete dentures are required if you need to replace a full arch. The full set of replacement teeth are usually made from resin on an acrylic base which fits comfortably and snugly over your gums and jawbone. Either impressions or scans are taken, from which custom-made dentures are created.

Implant retained dentures

These use titanium screw implants placed in the jawbone to secure the dentures in place and provide a fixed, permanent anchor. The advantages over removable dentures include:

  • patients feel they fit more securely
  • they are easier to bite and chew with
  • they can look and feel more natural

Denture FAQs

Dentures are a highly effective option for patients that are looking for a replacement for both the function and appearance of their natural teeth. Dentures are often the appropriate choice for patients with gum disease as they are unable to have implants.

We can take impressions or carry out a scan, depending on the patient, to ensure that your dentures fit both comfortably and snugly so there are no issues with the fit. Once your dentures are fitted, you’ll be advised on how to clean and look after them.

We advise patients to look after their dentures as if they were their natural teeth. As well as cleaning removable dentures with a soft brush and soaking them overnight in denture cleaner, it’s important that you also look after the soft tissues in your mouth to prevent gum disease. Gently brush your gums with a soft brush and use a mouthwash.

At CK Dental, we only use the very highest quality materials, and you can expect dentures to last between five and ten years, although this does vary per individual patients. We recommend six-monthly check-ups to ensure good soft tissue health and check the fitting of your dentures.

Patients often find there is a small period of adjustment after their dentures fitted, but you should be able to speak normally once you’re used to them. Many patients, however, may have experienced speech difficulties with missing teeth which should be corrected once their dentures are fitted. Similarly, you may find it difficult to eat at first, but you should get used to them very quickly.
