Thinking about Anti-Wrinkle Treatment? Your Questions Answered by Dr Josie Leach

Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

Anti-wrinkle injections have become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments available. When performed correctly, they can smooth fine lines, soften expression, and enhance your natural appearance, leaving you looking refreshed and rejuvenated.

Here, Associate Dentist Dr Josie Leach, who carries out the anti-wrinkle treatments, answers some commonly asked questions.

Who is suitable for anti-wrinkle injections?

These treatments are most effective for people looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and expression lines – particularly on the forehead, between the eyebrows (frown lines), and around the eyes (crow’s feet). They work by relaxing the underlying muscles that create creases when we frown or smile.

“Most patients I see are in their 30s to 50s and want to look like a more rested version of themselves,” says Josie. “It’s not about freezing your expression – the aim is always a natural, softened look that fits your face.”

What results can I expect?

Most patients start to notice visible results within 3 to 5 days, with full effects seen around 10 to 14 days after treatment. The treated areas appear smoother and more youthful, but the results are subtle and designed to preserve natural facial movement.

Depending on the area treated and your individual response, results typically last between 3 to 4 months, after which the treatment can be safely repeated.

How safe are anti-wrinkle injections?

While wrinkle-relaxing injections are considered very safe when performed by qualified professionals, the rise in poorly regulated cosmetic providers has increased the risk of complications. In fact, the UK Health Security Agency recently issued a warning after a number of botulism cases were linked to unlicensed cosmetic jabs.

At CK Dental, patient safety is the highest priority. Josie explains:

“As a dental professional, I have a deep understanding of facial anatomy and sterile technique, which helps reduce the risk of complications. We only ever use regulated, clinically approved products, and every treatment includes a full consultation, so we can plan what’s best for you.”

What should I expect after anti-wrinkle treatment?

Immediately after your treatment, you may notice some minor redness, swelling, or slight bruising at the injection sites. This usually fades within a few hours. You’ll be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, hot showers, or lying down for a few hours afterwards, and to refrain from rubbing or touching the treated areas. Most patients return to their normal activities the same day.

How often do I need anti-wrinkle injections?

For most people, treatments are needed every 3 to 4 months to maintain the best results. Over time, you may find you need less frequent top-ups, especially if the muscles become trained to contract less forcefully. Regular appointments also give the opportunity to tailor the treatment as your skin and goals evolve.
