Love Island Smile

Love Island is back on our screens and alongside the drama and romance, many viewers are noticing the dazzling smiles of the islanders. Their perfect teeth are inspiring countless fans to consider how they can achieve a similar look.

If you’re thinking about getting work done to achieve that perfect smile this summer, we’re here to reveal the best procedures available. We’ll also discuss why you might want to think twice before heading abroad for your treatments.

Straightening and whitening

One of the most effective ways to achieve a Love Island-worthy smile is through straightening and whitening treatments. Straightening your teeth can dramatically improve the appearance of your smile, making it more uniform and aesthetically pleasing.

Invisalign is a modern and discrete approach to teeth straightening and a popular choice because it uses invisible, comfortable and removable teeth aligners that fit into your lifestyle. Our dentists have undergone specialised training and are accredited providers of Invisalign.

Whitening, on the other hand, can brighten your smile by several shades, removing stains and discoloration caused by food, drinks, and lifestyle habits. Professional whitening treatments provided by a dentist are far more effective and longer lasting than over-the-counter products. These treatments use stronger whitening agents and ensure that your teeth are whitened evenly and safely.

We offer Enlighten whitening, one of the most effective whitening systems that can help you achieve a Vita B1 shade. This combined treatment involves a custom tray moulded precisely to your teeth and mouth shape, that is worn nightly for two weeks before a follow up with the dentist. We also offer Pola Light whitening, which involves us giving you a takeaway LED mouthpiece and whitening formula for even faster results.

Veneers and bonding

If you’re looking for a fast solution to achieve a flawless smile, veneers or composite bonding might be the perfect options for you. Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite resin that are custom-made to fit over the front surface of your teeth. They can correct a variety of dental imperfections, including gaps, chips, and discoloration. Veneers are highly durable and can last for many years with proper care.

Composite bonding is a less invasive alternative to veneers. This procedure involves applying a tooth-coloured resin to the surface of the teeth, which is then shaped and polished to improve their appearance. Bonding can be used to repair chips, close gaps, and even change the shape of your teeth. While not as long-lasting as veneers, bonding is a more affordable option and can still provide excellent results.

The dangers of going abroad for cosmetic dental work

In recent years, many people have chosen to travel abroad for dental treatments, especially to countries like Turkey. One of the primary concerns with getting dental treatments abroad is the lack of regulation and standards.

The qualifications of dentists and the quality of materials used may not meet the stringent standards set by regulatory bodies in the UK. This can lead to subpar results, infections, and other complications that may require corrective treatments once you return home.

Another significant issue is the lack of continuity of care. Follow-up appointments and aftercare are crucial for the success of any dental procedure. When you get your treatment abroad, it can become costly and inconvenient to arrange follow-up appointments if complications arise.

To find out more about treatments to help you achieve the perfect smile this summer, schedule an appointment with our friendly reception team. Our dentists can assess your oral health and make treatment recommendations based on your goals and aspirations. For nervous patients, or those with highly sensitive teeth, we also offer sedation for helping you stay comfortable throughout your treatment.

Transform your smile

Christmas should be a fun and magical time, as you make memories with friends and family that you can treasure forever. However, if you aren’t confident about your smile, it can quickly turn into a festive nightmare.

If you are dreading having to show your teeth for family photos, there are ways you can transform your smile in time for Christmas. Regain your confidence and enjoy the festivities with these fast, simple treatments…

Get that missing tooth replaced

Missing teeth can have a significant impact on confidence. Whether you have one, or multiple missing teeth, having them replaced can instantly transform your smile.

Dental implants are a permanent solution, lasting a lifetime with adequate care. They are titanium screws that are placed into the jawbone. Surrounding bone eventually fuses to the implant, keeping it in place. The screw is covered with a crown that closely resembles the natural colour of your teeth.

Straighten out uneven teeth

If you have a misaligned smile, it can greatly impact your confidence. Many adults don’t seek treatment to straighten crooked or misaligned teeth as they don’t want the embarrassment of wearing braces. However, the good news is there are solutions that are practically invisible to the naked eye.

Invisalign teeth straightening is an innovative treatment, consisting of transparent aligners. Easy to put in and remove, they straighten out the teeth much quicker than traditional braces. You can expect to see results within six months, and you don’t need to attend as many follow up appointments as you would with traditional methods.

Get a brighter, whiter smile

Over time, the teeth can become discoloured due to staining from food, smoking, caffeine, and alcohol. When they turn yellow, you might not feel as confident showing your teeth when you smile.

Teeth whitening is one of the most popular treatments requested by patients. Helping you to achieve a brighter, whiter smile instantly, there are a variety of treatments available. At CK Dental, we recommend the Pola Light Teeth Whitening kit.

Utilising LED light technology, this at-home kit is a brilliant, advanced whitening system. You’ll receive the award-winning Pola whitening system, alongside a comfortable LED mouthpiece. Simply apply the mouthpiece for 10-15 minutes a day, for a total of five days. Tough stains will be gradually removed, leaving behind a bright, white smile.

Whatever teeth issues you are dealing with, there is a fast, effective treatment available. If you are interested in any of the above treatments, book a consultation with one of our friendly dentists today.

Throughout November, we are offering the Pola Light Whitening kits at an introductory rate of just £195. The treatment typically costs around £250, so take advantage of the offer while it lasts.

Invisalign Aligners

Want straighter teeth but worried about having to wear braces? With the return of the new school year, the last thing you need is to worry about hiding your teeth when you smile. The good news is there is an alternative to traditional braces that can fix your teeth and help you regain your confidence.

Invisalign braces are 100% invisible, and they produce results in less time than traditional braces. Read on to find out more about this revolutionary tooth straightening approach.

What are Invisalign aligners?

Invisalign aligners are clear, custom-built aligners produced by Invisalign specialists. 3D digital scans are taken of the teeth, before the aligners are created – so that they fit snugly and comfortably. Additionally, there are no brackets or wires to worry about, and they are created from a flexible plastic.

The aligners are created to apply just the right amount of pressure to the areas needed, gradually helping to straighten out the teeth. It can take up to six months for the aligners to work, and they need to be worn for 20-22 hours each day.

You will need to remove the aligners to eat and clean your teeth, but other than that they stay firmly in place.

Benefits of Invisalign aligners

There are many benefits of choosing Invisalign aligners over traditional braces. The fact that you can’t see them and there are no brackets or wires to worry about is one of the main ones. This can be very reassuring for students who may worry about how they might look at school. Other benefits include:

  • More comfortable than traditional braces
  • Removable for eating and playing sports
  • No risk of emergency dental visits due to broken wires
  • Personalised to match your teeth

Those who wear Invisalign aligners claim they are much more comfortable than traditional braces. This, alongside the other many benefits, is because they are created to accurately fit your mouth. The personalised service means you benefit from the best possible results.

You will need to be monitored throughout the six months you are wearing the aligners. This will accommodate any changes as your teeth move into position.

Book now for a consultation

To learn more about Invisalign aligners and how they might benefit you, book a consultation with our new Invisalign specialist, Alex James. With a keen interest in cosmetic dentistry, Alex will instantly put you at ease. At your first meeting, you can discuss what to expect if you choose to proceed with the Invisalign treatment.

After wearing your Invisalign aligners for the specified amount of time – usually between 12 and 18 months, your results will be long-lasting.

Invisalign treatment

Invisalign treatment is an innovative tooth straightening procedure. Ideal for all ages, it replaces traditional braces, with clear ones. Made with SmartTrack material, these aligners are comfortable to wear. They are customised to perfectly fit each patient for maximum results.

While Invisalign is suitable for most patients, there are some factors to consider before you book the procedure. Here, you’ll discover how to decide whether Invisalign is right for you.

What kind of problems can Invisalign treat?

Invisalign treatment is suitable for a wide range of tooth problems. Just some of the things this innovative treatment can help with include:

  • Overbite/Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Gaps in the teeth
  • Crowded teeth

Each of the problems above can lead to more severe issues if left untreated. Traditional braces are effective, but they can be uncomfortable. They are also easy to spot, whereas Invisalign aligners blend in with the teeth. If you have any of these problems, Invisalign might be for you.

Is there an age limit?

Invisalign is suitable for anyone 13 years and over. Unlike most orthodontic treatments, this one is largely designed with adults in mind. There is no upper age limit for the treatment, the main requirement is that you don’t have any baby teeth still present.

When might an Invisalign treatment not be recommended?

In some cases, Invisalign treatment might not be right for you. If you still have baby teeth, or if certain teeth have been removed, the procedure may not be suitable. This is because if teeth are missing, it isn’t going to be possible to fill in the gap between them. Similarly, if you have false teeth Invisalign isn’t going to be suitable for you.

Those with periodontal disease, or acute gum disease, are also unsuitable for the treatment. The dentist will be able to assess your suitability for the procedure during your consultation.

What results can I expect?

You will usually need to wear Invisalign aligners for an average of 12-18 months before you complete the treatment. The exact time will depend upon the type of problem you are experiencing, and how severe it is.

Unlike traditional teeth straightening methods, the results for Invisalign can be more accurately predicted prior to the treatment. This is down to their customised design. The aligners are created using dental impressions taken from the patient’s mouth.

Overall, Invisalign is suitable for a wide range of patients. It can correct many different problems with teeth alignment, remaining invisible to the naked eye. You will find them comfortable to wear and they provide much faster results than traditional braces.

As May marks National Smile Month, now is the perfect time to start thinking about your oral health. During the coronavirus lockdown, dentists expressed their concern over the number of patients missing appointments. Good oral hygiene helps to protect our overall health, as well as giving us that perfect smile.

Here, we will reveal some of the best ways to protect your oral health in light of National Smile Month.

Improve your daily routine

There are a lot of things you can do in your daily routine to improve your oral hygiene.

Making sure you brush twice a day is the first thing to focus on. It might seem harmless to skip brushing your teeth at night for example. However, plaque can build-up, leading to long term health issues. As well as brushing twice each day, you should also make sure you are brushing for two minutes at a time with a fluoride toothpaste.

Flossing is equally important as it helps to remove bits of food and plaque between the teeth. Typically, you are told to floss after you have brushed. However, there is some evidence to suggest that flossing beforehand helps to make brushing your teeth more effective.

A good tip is to spit the toothpaste out, rather than rinse it out. When you rinse the toothpaste away, it can also remove the fluoride. This is what helps to protect the teeth, so washing it away will cause the toothpaste to be ineffective.

To complete your daily oral routine, using a fluoride mouthwash can also help. It will prevent any plaque from building up, clearing away any debris. Of course, it also helps to give you a nice minty, fresh breath.

Be wary of what you eat

When it comes to snacks, not all of them are great for your teeth. While snacking can form a healthy part of your diet, eating sugary foods can prove detrimental to your dental health.

If you do need to snack, focus on healthy, non-sugary foods. Nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables are all great snack choices for the teeth.

Consider dental treatments

As well as keeping your oral health in check at home, there are some great dental treatments to help keep the teeth healthy. A straightening treatment can help to correct issues such as food getting stuck between the teeth. An Invisalign straightening treatment uses clear aligners that sit comfortably in your mouth, so there is little interference in your daily life. It also gives you a more confident smile.

You can also opt for a teeth whitening treatment. These are great for removing stains from the teeth, as well as to achieve a natural looking brighter smile in next to no time.

To ensure your teeth and gums are as healthy as they can be, book a consultation with CK Dental today. Call us on 0117 905 9866 or email info@ckdental.co.uk .

whiter smile

Georgina Gargett, a 30 year-old Travel Agent Manager was over the moon when she found out that she was the lucky recipient of a Polanight Teeth Whitening treatment with CK Dental.

Georgina, normally works in central Bristol, but is now working from home in Yatton, North Somerset and has been using video calls for work and her book club. Confronted by her own appearance more often, she had been thinking about having a teeth whitening treatment, and especially as she would be getting married in just a few months.

She had been keeping a beady eye on local competitions on Instagram and she was delighted when the opportunity to win a free whitening treatment with the Bristol based dentist popped up in January. She could have a whiter smile in time for her big day!

The initial consultation

At CK Dental, the first step of a teeth whitening treatment involves a consultation with the dentist to check your general oral health and suitability for the procedure. Georgina’s initial appointment was arranged very promptly at the dental clinic in Clifton which is at the Nuffield Hospital.

“Everything felt safe and hygienic on entering the building. I was even given a fresh medical mask to wear! I wasn’t nervous at all. The team at CK Dental were really friendly and put me at ease”, she said.

Georgina was the perfect candidate. Her teeth were in a good condition, and this was backed up by X Rays from her regular dentist. The dentist did a scan of her teeth so that a mould could be made for the whitening trays.

The teeth whitening treatment

Once Georgina had collected her customised trays, she was ready to go with a plan of using them every night, for 14 consecutive nights. She would then go back to the dentist for a final check-up.

The convenient thing about the Polanight Treatment that Georgina received, is that she could apply it while she slept. Because of the concentration of carbamide peroxide, Georgina was able to achieve stronger whitening in a shorter period of time. In fact, she started noticing the difference in just a week.

“Although this was a gradual change to me, several friends mentioned that they could really see the difference when we met up for a socially distanced walk.”

Side effects of teeth whitening

Like any treatment, teeth whitening can cause some potential side effects. Georgina was told to expect some mild sensitivity for a few days after the treatment.

“I would put the trays in half an hour before going to sleep to get used to them. I just got used to them and I was able to sleep fine, they weren’t at all uncomfortable.”

Other than some sensitivity, there were no other side effects. In fact, she was able to carry on drinking tea and coffee and eat whatever she wanted.

Happy with the results

Georgina was really pleased with the results of her treatment, and says that she “highly recommends it, and the team at CK Dental”.

One of the best things about this treatment is that it doesn’t require extensive maintenance. You will only need to top up the treatment for one night every couple of months during the first year. Unsurprisingly, Georgina is planning a top up treatment just ahead of her wedding in the Summer.

Why not treat yourself to a whiter smile with an effective, simple whitening treatment. Call CK Dental on 0117 905 9866 to book a consultation.

better than a facelift

Those looking to improve their facial appearance tend to focus on drastic procedures such as a facelift. While these procedures can deliver excellent results, less invasive procedures may be a better option.

Did you know for example, that many people are finding an Invisalign treatment to be a better alternative to a facelift? Here, we’ll look at how changing your teeth through the Invisalign system can prove better than an extensive facelift procedure.

Why might Invisalign be better than a facelift?

The jaw and teeth provide the frame for our face. Therefore, making adjustments to how they look can ultimately impact our entire facial features. Since the start of the lockdown, the cosmetic dentistry sector has seen a significant rise in demand. The rise in Zoom video calls, additional time on social media as well as desire for a ‘pick me up’ from social isolation, has led to many people choosing treatments to correct their facial imperfections.

Invisalign braces help to correct the shape of the teeth and jaw, in turn helping to alter the appearance of facial features. Unlike a facelift, the treatment is also very hard to spot and it doesn’t require a huge recovery time. Facelifts are renowned for their lengthy recovery process and you’ll need to wear a bandage for a week or two. This makes it difficult to hide the procedure from others.

With Invisalign, the results are natural too. The braces are created using a mould of your mouth. This ensures they will fit correctly and feel comfortable. Facelifts on the other hand, tend to create a more dramatic impact. A full face lift is often easy to detect due to how extensive it is.

The benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign braces deliver a lot of great benefits. The fact that they are practically invisible to the naked eye is a major benefit. This is great for those who worry about having standard braces because of how they might look.

Ageing also tends to be more visible on the lower part of the face. As Invisalign braces help to alter the shape of the jaw, it can help to correct the signs of ageing in the area. Unlike a lot of procedures, they also provide natural looking results. This means it won’t be obvious that you have had work completed. The additional structure and support provided by the braces also helps to reduce sagging.

They can also widen the smile, making it more prominent. You’ll find them easy to clean and look after, and most patients feel they are comfortable to wear.

What is Invisalign Go?

Invisalign Go is aimed at patients with mild correction issues, who are looking for fast results. Clear aligners are used to straighten the teeth in just six months. The original Invisalign treatment takes around 12-18 months to work fully. You will need to wear them all of the time, besides when brushing, flossing and eating.

Both Invisalign and Invisalign Go have proven highly effective at helping patients to achieve a perfect smile. As well as improving the teeth and jawline, they can also help to improve the signs of ageing.

Book a consultation today to see how Invisalign could help you to boost your confidence and achieve that perfect smile. Call CK Dental on 0117 905 9866 to book an appointment with our experienced dentists.

teeth straightening

Braces have long been used to help straighten the teeth. However, they have come a long way since they were first introduced.

Conventional metal braces aren’t the only straightening method available these days. They also aren’t limited to children. A growing number of adults are choosing modern day braces to help them achieve a perfect smile. Here, you’ll discover more about the different types of braces available.

Who can have braces?

The ideal time to wear braces is typically between the ages of 10-14. However, you can wear them at any age. In June 2020, the British Orthodontic Society reported 80% of its members were seeing more adult patients requesting braces to straighten their teeth.

The majority of the time adult patients are seeking to straighten the teeth for cosmetic reasons. However, some patients do need them for health purposes. Whatever the reason for needing braces, the teeth should be in good condition and you should also have good oral hygiene.

What different types of braces are there?

There are a number of different types of braces available today. While conventional metal mouth braces are still used, there are other less noticeable braces you can use. The different types of braces dentists can use on their patients include:

  • Ceramic
  • Lingual
  • Self-ligating
  • Invisible

Ceramic braces are made to match the colour of your natural teeth. They are as effective as metal braces, but they are also just as uncomfortable and they can be expensive. Lingual braces are hidden behind the teeth; however, they can be hard to adjust and it can have a more significant impact on speech.

Self-ligating braces tend to offer less discomfort and they can offer a quicker treatment. The downsides are that they can stain the teeth and they won’t be suitable for all patients.

The most recent type of braces introduced onto the market are invisible braces. These are easy to clean, they don’t cause discomfort and it isn’t easy to tell that you are wearing them. You can learn more about these innovative braces below.

What are invisible braces?

At CK Dental, we provide Invisalign invisible braces. These innovative braces offer more benefits than traditional braces. They are especially well-suited to patients who worry about having visible braces.

The Invisalign treatment starts by scanning the mouth to create a 3D image of the teeth. This is used to create aligners that are exactly tailored to your mouth. It takes around a month to create the aligners, which will then need to be changed approximately every 1-2 weeks. A check-up is required every six weeks and it takes an average of 12-18 months to complete the treatment.

A major benefit of these braces is that they cause minimal discomfort. So, if you’re looking to straighten your teeth discreetly and pain-free, invisible braces are a great choice.

You can learn more about teeth straightening, and about our Invisalign treatments, at your initial consultation. Call CK Dental today on 0117 905 9866 to book a consultation with our experienced dentists.
